These paintings by Tracy Hall range in size from 1.75" x 2.25" up to 2" x 3" and are painted in miniature. A penny is shown to give an idea of scale.

The National Gallery describes a miniaturist as "an artist who works in great detail on a very small scale" - which sums it up perfectly!

I hope you enjoy the video.

  • How do you get started in minatures?

  • @glasman9

Recommend you visit the Miniature Art group on Yahoo (miniatureart)

    Lots of information and help!

  • You're very welcome, and so pleased you enjoyed it. Hopefully will find time to do another soon:)

  • awesome work - about how long does it take to paint one of these small creations? excluding drying time actual painting time

  • Thank you. They take anywhere from a full day to over a week (or more). Because the techniques used to paint a miniature are very fine (painstaking even) they usually take just as long as a larger work. I hope that helps.

  • Your paintings are just amazing. The miniature paintings are so beautiful. I love your style of watercolor. I watched your owl demo and it was beautiful. I hope I am not out of line asking but I wondered if you might sometime give a small demo on say doing a feather or bit of fur or a leaf and show slowly how it is done? I will be watching for more videos:)))))

  • Wonderful! --The Great American Dollhouse Museum

  • I think these are really great but they aren't very practical. Obviously, you enjoy doing it, but they are hard to appreciate without a magnifying glass.
