I made the last eye update very short because it is hard for me to talk about and I was afraid I'd break down. But Keith said I should just do whaeat I usually do and that is speak from the heart and be myself. So this is more of an update, showing my real feeealings (and I did break down for a little bit, sohry) and telling about the procedure and also some reasearch that MIT is doing. (the rest of what I said for my deaf friends) It was very hard for me when the doctor told me that the only way to get rid of the pain and off the dangerous pain medicines was to remove my eyesj It just kind of freaks me out to think of having fake eyes. It's a very scary thought when it becomes a reality for you. But I try to think of how once they are both done that the pain should be gone and I will be off all pain medications. The pain from the surgery is mild-moderaeate and should go away within a few days. The proceedure they are doing on me is they will remove the corneaea and everything in the eye and just leave the sclera, the white skin of the eye. Then they will put a "ball" made out of coral into the skin and the muscles will wrap around it. After about 2 weeks I will see an Ocularist, the Dr. that makes the artificial eyes, and be fitted for the "shell," the part that will go over the coral to make the "eye." It will take about 2 more weeks to make and then I will get that put on. I will probably wait until both eyes are removed (about 4 weeks apart) to get the shells. In the mean time I'll just wear dark glasses. And since the muscles are still attached to the coral, my eyes will move like real eyes. My Nanny had a false eye and you couldn't tell which was afake. And I am using her Ocularist so I know mine will be just as good. I look forward ! having pretty blue eyes again. If you have any questions, comment here and I will either make a video for you or get Keith to comment back. After the surgery, in about 3 weeks, I guess, I will update when I am feeling up to it to let you know how things went and how it feels. See you in a few weeks!

  • Of course it's hard to think about losing both of your eyes. I mean, they are our window on the world. Losing them means giving up on ever being able to see again. I know you've gotten a 2nd opinion but consider getting a 3rd and 4th. This is a permanent life-long decision and there is no going back. Exhaust every possibility first. It's not about looks (you're beautiful no matter what!) but surgeons are quick to do surgery. What if it is in the muscles!?! You won't know til it's too late.

  • In the past 7 months I have seen SO many doctors, the surgeon only after the decision was made. The have all come up with it being my eyes and only one solusion. I would do anything to keep my eyes and get rid of the pain.

If it is in the eye muscles, they owd have to remove the eyes to remove the muscles, so it would be the same procedure basically, but a different type of prosthetic eye.

I pray every day and I can use all the prayers, love, and light, that I can get. HUGZ

  • Hi, this is Myralinn from livejournal...I hope your surgery went well. I can imagine how hard it must be for you. I think of you, and hope you'll get rid of the pain very soon. Hugs

  • My thoughts and prayers are with you ThunderShyne. I just lost my right eye to Ocular Melanoma about 2 months ago. I can't imagine losing sight in both eyes like yourself. You're definately a strong woman and I admire that in a person!! I'm sure you'll be just as pretty with your prosthetic eyes as you are now. I hope your surgeries go well and that you can live the rest of your life with little or no pain.

    Take care,

    Jeff

  • You are an incredibly strong, inspiring, and beautiful person. I am so moved and humbled by your story, and I don't even know you. I will be thinking of you and wishing you all the best. Keep that fighting spirit, girl.

  • I can give her hugs in person but I would like to give each of you that sent these heart warming messages a big virtual hug.

  • I don't even know what to say. I am sending you lots of love and praying for you!

  • Words don't come easy in this instance. All I can do is send you love and luck for your surgery. This is such a huge step, but it could give you your life back again. It will never be the same, but it could be good in a different way.

Crossing all my fingers for a successful surgery.

  • I understand you are feeling uneasy about having fake eyes, but once they are in your eyes, you will become accustomed with them eventually. You will still be able to do what you really enjoy like hooping, etc. You can do those after the surgery. We will be praying for your surgery to go well and your healing.

  • I am sorry about it. I understand how it feels about losing your eyes. If there are no other options to take the pains away, the surgery might be the one to help to take pains away. You don't want to tolerate pains in your eyes, and having a surgery will help taking them away and make you feel better.
