Proposition 5 will cut state costs. The nonpartisan Legislative Analyst estimates those savings at $2.5 billion or more. Prop. 5 safely eases prison overcrowding by investing in drug treatment - which costs much less than prison - for youth and nonviolent offenders. Prop. 5 provides treatment with strict accountability.

Prop. 5 is supported by the League of Women Voters of California, Consumer Federation of California, California Nurses Association, California Society of Addiction Medicine, California Federation of Teachers - and many others.

Prop. 5 is opposed by the state prison guards' union, which has contributed almost $2 million for deceptive TV ads. Prison guards benefit from prison overcrowding and new prison building, but California loses.

  • While I'm not saying that kids or anyone should participate in drug use, if you are an adult with knowledge and understanding about the drug. We should be a free country with a free choice to consume or partake in drugs if we so choose as long as we do not harm others around us. I say regulate it, keep it off the streets, stop wasting billions each year locking up non violent drug users, and fix the clusterfuck that were in.

  • awesome video. plant based drugs should be legal. if you think otherwise you are guilty of discrimination. (even though you probably consider yourself a christian, i beg to differ) Jesus saved whores from death who were breaking the law. Vote on this issue and save non violent plant lovers from ruined lives in court and prison.

  • heck, jesus turned barrels of water into wine so people could celebrate weddings.

In california you can destroy an unborn child as a minor without telling your parents, but you can't get euphoria or stimulation from a drug.

That Prop 5 didn't pass is testament to how the TV is used to brainwash.

  • At least cannabis is safer than alcohol or siggaretts which kill so many people each year while there have been no deaths by consumption of cannabis. Kids will always dable in drugs and get ahold of them somehow but I'd much rather have my kids consume cannabis rather than alcohol or take part in any deadly drugs. Who are we to dictate what other adults consume especially when we as a country condone the use of alcohol and siggaretts?

  • wow who the fuck do you think you are? I may consume cannabis on ocasion and sure, call me a 'pot head' but I'm a rather successful, well educated, and active person who couldn't care less what a boring dumbass like you has to say. If weed were decriminalized or better yet legalized, it could be regulated, sold in stores where age limmits are required, and be kept off the streets so rational adults don't have to go to the streets. I say keep the weed out of drug seller's hands and regulate it.

  • This ad might have just convinced me to vote no on 5

  • umm NO because we are wasting billions of tax payers' money by imprisoning non violent drug users and even medical marijuana patients who need it to SURVIVE. If you honestly think that imprisoning dieing people for using a natural PLANT to survive and live a better life, then you are just an asshole without a heart. Besides, the only bad side of consuming something like cannabis is the punnishment for doing so. Grow a brain you idiot.
