@bbhoodmel it is never late. You can even match the learning speed of a kid with the proper motivation AND need.
Go to an immersion program, with only anglo speakers. Or even better go to England or America (don't go to the big cities), that will force you to learn English to socialize, and you will improve much more quicker than you thought. Having a boyfriend/girlfriend who speaks ONLY the language you want to learn is proven to accelerate the learning speed as fast as a kid.

@Miikaika25 yup, it is in my opinion. Especially the conjugation of irregular verbs, even native speakers can't learn it properly. In Argentina you will hear a lot of people using the conditionals incorrectly, for example.
Plus there are genders in every noun and its article has to match it. All the verbs have the person, number and tense all "integrated", and you should be able to tell just hearing it. (ie. "comió" is the 3rd person singular, in the preterit tense. In English it is "He ate")

I'm sorry... I didn't realize I was offending anyone by referring to it as America. As far as I know "American" is the correct term for someone from the US. And I certainly wasn't whining. I was just saying that I think I would be on a much higher level with my French if I had started earlier.. And I didn't say anything about forced enrollment either. I got to choose the language I take now and I wouldn't have it any other way.
I guess I may not understand what you're trying to say...

cry me a river. Okay, I wish I had learned a 2nd language when I was really young, but I was fortunate enough to start learning Chinese at 26.

U.S. schools ought to reward language study. (I know You're an "American" cuz they're the only one's clueless enough to refer to themselves as such.) I really wanna study french some day, cuz I feel it's important for a mastery of English. I never attended a private school in my life, but started studding Russian in junior High cuz I enrolled. Do you want forced enrollment ? Can I study French? I'm studying plant identification now, but wish I had started earlier.
-
I have exactly the same regrets...But with English...I started to learn English at 11 years old and in my opinion it's already too late...

I wish schools in America taught foreign languages at a younger age. I went to public school for elementary and I didn't really start taking a foreign language until high school when I entered a private school. I'm taking French now and I just wish I had started a little earlier! :(
That was an excellent video! They're doing a great job! :) I love that you have something physical for them to see and touch when they are learning. It helps greatly.
