The estate is about 10 minutes from Apia and incorporates the grand home of Robert Louis Stevenson, now restored to the same condition it was in when he and his wife lived here over a century ago.
It is also an evolving museum with a tour that takes about 40 minutes and is quite interesting.
There is a waterfall and swimming hole about 5 minutes walk away and there's also the option of hiking to the top of the neighbouring mountain where Robert Louis Stevenson and his wife Fanny are buried. The view from here takes in all of Apia and helps you understand why this great poet, novelist and travel writer chose it as his resting place for eternity.
