Blücher was not fully worked up, her sea trials had not been completed. To send her into such an operation was foolhardy. Not only that but she was not fully ammunitioned, still carrying practice ammo in her ammo vaults. . Two of her aircraft were not shipped in order to make room for the equipment and ammo of the soldiers. What a shame and what stupidity.

Helicopters were developed and built during the first half-century of flight, with the Focke-Wulf Fw 61 being the first operational helicopter in 1936. I apologize for a response to such an old post, but i feel the need to respond by saying Yes, Helicopters did exist in 1940. There were many "helicopters" which were invented and operated between the wars, though none of which saw offensive action.
