The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District dredges Marina del Rey Harbor in Western Los Angeles County to keep the federal navigation channel open. This year's maintenance dredging cycle involved a pilot program to separate contaminants from the dredged material, generating reusable sand to replenish nearby beaches.
This is a GREAT project. A lot of people may not at first understand the importance of this work, but if the Corps can find a way at a reasonable cost to reuse sandy material that has unfriendly material in it, then everybody wins. Tax payers win when less money is spent by agencies to dispose of materials with contaminants and the beaches can benefit from a fresh supply of sand. Keep up the GOOD WORK.
