I think the technique is good for those with reduced mobility of shoulder, muscular & old swimmers, in case of sports accidents of shoulder. The condition for to not increases drag is to keep an up elbow using an internal rotation of entire arm. You can find a similar video of Dave Scott who explain 170 degree extension of arms in reaching phase of recovery
