  • even though he was too old for the part, his Mercutio is still the best screen version I've seen.

  • PLEASE READ!! I am so cunfused right, now. I saw three different performances of Mercutio(movies: the version of 1968, the newest one[with Leonardo DiCaprio], and this one)and i don't get what Shakespeare is trying to illustrate from Mercutio, because in the newest version of Queen Mab's speech, Mercutio start's with silliness and then he goes all angry, on the 1968 version he start being silly and then ends up being sad, and in this version Mercutio stays the same throughout his speech.

    People interpret the character in different ways. Some think that the Queen Mab Speech is simply Mercutio being silly and gets a bit carried away, while others think that he becomes caught up in his own emotions about love and dreams and forgets himself, revealing a deeper side of the character in the process.

  • the casting in those days were completely out of age range. these guys were way to old to be playing these roles.

  • Dang. Both Howard and Barrymore would have been just this side of perfect if each had been at least 20 years younger:) --

  • Good Lord, this is simply Mercutio done as well as ever could be.

    @barrymore Just the twentieth?

  • The best actor of the 20th century!!!!

  • There is a good story about Jack and the filming of this scene. I presume you know what it is?
