NOPE HIM AND PETE ROSE SHOULD NEVER SNIFF THE ENTRANCE TO THE HOF.. GOT WHAT THEY DESERVED
-
@1400deadwood When does the kid enter the scene?
-
@Shivierie - yes there has long been a rule against gambling in baseball since the 1870s when an earlier gambling scandal broke out. However, Shoeless Joe was NOT convicted. Because of the Constitutional rule against double jeopardy, he could not be tried again. Therefore, as far as we are all concerned he remains NOT GUILTY of this crime. On that basis, the HOF doors should be opened for him.

@1400deadwood Whether he should or shouldn't doesn't matter. I don't think it's possible for him to be. Isn't there a rule against initiating people who gambled or were banned from baseball
-
It's kinda sad because the White Sox might not have won the pennant if not for Jackson, who was their best hitter. And for that, he ended up getting dragged into the fix that ended his career.
-
joe and the rest were found not guilty, much to the happiness of most people. unfortunately baseball commissioner kenesaw landis was not impressed and banned them all from baseball. even tho joe jackson would later say he didn't know the details of the betting scheme, he and eddie cicotte reportedly confessed to a grand jury.
landis wasn't buying any of it, he was determined to rid baseball of insider gambling, and if you knew anything but didn't snitch you were banned.
