Classic commercial for the famous 50's car called The Edsel. Considered to be one of the biggest flops of all time, The Edsel now has a cult following.

  • ... they all look black, white and grey to me lol. but they still look nice.

  • never seen before, yeah nobody ever saw a car that had a toilet bowl on the front

  • @adamcharney Not so different from todays BMW grill

  • @Tr3ySw4g: The unusual styling of the Edsel cars are what attracts me the most to these cars. They were different than anything else on the road back then. Personally, even today, I choose cars that are different, that stand out in the crowd.

  • i'm all for classic 40's,50's,60's, 70s and 80s american classics but i just cannot stand the front end grille of an edsel they look so strange The edsel and the tucker torpedo are the only rare classic i don't like sure if i see any for sale i would buy them and put it in a display especially the tucker but these wouldn't be anything i would pay attention to

  • Man seeing this makes you think mad men is full of shit! What a crappy ad!

  • I kinda like the vertical grill. The car does have a unique look. You can't blame the designers for trying to be original. ;-)

  • Some people though the horse-collar grill looked like a toilet seat.

  • @lcar4000 The Edsel was not a design problem, it was a quality control problem. The Edsel never had a dedicated line, it was assembled on a Fairlane line, every thirtieth car was an Edsel, workers juggled tools and parts. It had a push button gear selector in the center of the steering column, with mechanical linkage, it was a hard fix, Edsel's were seen sitting on the side of the road. The grill, they started saying it looked like a horse collar, others said it looked like a toilet seat.

  • I think the Edsel was definitely a unique looking car. The rear end of it looked pretty good, as did the side. The vertical grill just didn't fit in with the rest of it.
