It's quiet because we live in a world where cheap disposable rubbish is preferred over true artistry. People want instant gratification, and so you'll see theatres struggling to draw crowds, while Vin Diesel movies make millions worldwide - opera-houses cash-strapped, while talentless three-chord merchants sell out stadiums - museums and art galleries empty and football stadiums full - thoughtful documentaries ignored in favour of insipid reality TV, et cetera.
Sad, but true.

Also, as a performer myself - you have to realize that audiences are not all guitar heads. Maybe they just fired it up the previous tune, and the vibe needed was exactly what they did. Not everything in the scope of a performance has to be a chops display.

the song is TENDERLY. wikpedia: Tenderly" is a popular song published in 1946 with music by Walter Gross (1909-1967) and lyrics by Jack Lawrence. It became a jazz standard.
there are other videos of them doing this same arrangement, different improv.

dang! Where's the crowd? there should be thousands there enjoying this? Is it the camera angle or what?
Reminds me of that joke: what's the difference between a blues guitarist& a jazz guitarist? Blues guitarist plays three chord for thousands of people, jazz guitarist plays thousands of chords for three people.

excellent observation... you pretty much nailed it in one paragraph..there is no money in the arts, but all the arts are a necessity..Art appreciation at a young age is vital... If you can grow up with it, you will hear the voice of artists who are the creative reflection of our times.. they take their own vision of darkness and light and explain it to the masses..they let us know the joy and pain of what is just around the corner.. nicely said.. wow that is an old comment lol.
i dont know why people gave me a thumbs down, its just an observation.
anyway i totally agree with you, most of my friends and people i know are not interested in tommy; nor care about why i listen to him.
i love documentaries, to learn about things. i love to listen to music in its purest form. in some sense though RAP e.t.c is music, it means something to the people that listen to it. but theres hardly any true musical inspirations like tommy anymore

Two of the all-time greats. I would have loved Ted Greene to be on stage with these two.

because when you're in the presence of a musical genius, you tend to become speechless ;) lol...
I don't know about Martin's but it's not on any of Tommy's as far as I can rememer. I had heard it before this concert though...I think that it may be a 'jazz standard' that they gave their own treatment..
