1 breath at 1000ppm in an enclosed area would knock you out within seconds and would be fatal after about 4 to 5 minutes of passing out. 10ppm is about the legal limit for working conditions. long term exposure over 100ppm can get you too but it would take more than 1 breath. at 100 to 500ppm it would probably make you really sick but you would survive if removed to fresh air quickly.

What's so great about someone scuba diving in the water? Where is the H2S at in the water? How can H2S in the water hurt you? It cant! The driver feels no ill effects from the H2S cause he has on a SCUBA tank and is breathing compressed fresh air. By the way, H2S at 1000ppm and above will kill ya. We deal with the H2S gas in the oilfield everyday. I have worked in H2S that is 100,000ppm safely wearing a fresh air pack.
