Cooper suffered severe head and internal injuries after crashing his Holden VZ Commodore into a guard rail at over 200 kph during the Fujitsu V8 Supercars Series race at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide on 23 February 2008.

Cooper had been given emergency medical treatment trackside from medical teams, including Dr Bill Griggs, who performed a tracheotomy to assist with Cooper's breathing. Cooper was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital by ambulance and was put on life support.[4] He died two days later, at the age of 27. A registered organ donor, Cooper's heart, lungs, kidneys, pancreas and liver have been donated to seven people, including a six-year-old child.[5]

  • Another one that wasn't so bad was Dale Earnhardt.... that looked relatively minor, however it was fatal for him. If you watch this and then for example the pither-weel accident of bathurst 08 and you could say that this is less serious, however the forces involved in this accident would be enourmous. RIP (race in peace) Ashley Cooper.

Has anyone ever thought that in heaven there is gonna be one kick arse motor race going on? Think about it, all the drivers who've died doing what they love

  • Auto racing safety is a continuous improvement situation, but as long as men and woman race there wil always be fatal accidents. Racing car divers are fully aware of the risks involved in racing especially fatalities. It is the chance they choose to take.

In racing death is merely the nature of the beast.

  • @ZUFALL2938 And its religious assholes like you that make the world more painful and miserable for the rest of us... Shame on you for your lack of respect for your fellow man. Ashley died doing what he loved, as so many have before him. He even donated his organs to save 7 other human lives, including a child, and all you do is disrespect him with your psychological issues...... Ashley Cooper, your unfortunate tragedy has brought hope to those who would have died without your sacrifice. [R.I.P.]
