  • @labradorguide Thanks, this really sounds like a good way to field dress a moose quickly. Although your method would be great if you are at the loading or quartering destination; this a is not a good way if you plan to drag your moose any distance afterwards. Done this way the whole chest cavity and every incision area will become soiled with dirt. Given a chance I will try your method, sounds easy... except for getting it onto its back. lol

  • Much easier if you put the moose completely on it's back, cut through the brisket, use the windpipe as a handle to pull the whole gutpile back,to the pelvis, cut out a section of the pelvic bone about three to four inches across, then just finish hauling everything out the back end.Takes all of five minutes or so, depending on how the moose fell. Hardest part is getting it into position, preferably on fairly level ground with the head slightly uphill. A bit of rope helps for sure.

  • @labradorguide I suppose that I should also point out we use this method because we take our moose out of the bush whole... not quartered!

  • @labradorguide Nowhere did I say this was the best way... this is the only way I know how. Having only done about twenty-five moose myself, I would love to learn a better way. Please do tell!

  • Having field dressed a couple hundred moose myself, I have to say that this is possibly the slowest, most backward way I have ever seen it done!
