This is the tenth part of my Pokemon Colosseum speedrun. In this part, I have arrived at Agate, and now I proceed to help Eagun clear out the Relic Stone. There are only a few battles, but the last one is the most dangerous. Again, I forgo snagging Hitmontop here, since I can do it easier later with the Master Ball.

Battle 4: Cipher Peon Skrub is a pain. And not because of his Shadow Hitmontop - thats an easy 2HKO from Confusion. No, the real pain comes from his Wynaut. Hitmontop hits hard but isnt a problem really, and everything else is a minimal threat. Attacking Wynaut is a pain, cos you never know if its gonna use Mirror Coat or Counter, and the damage it takes allows those moves to easily KO you. Thankfully things go well here - it uses Mirror Coat 3 times in a row, which was rare, normally the AI alternates between Counter and Mirror Coat. I get a flinch on Wynaut saving me time.

The rest of this is story driven. I cannot purify Croconaw until I get the Small Tablet, so I visit Selinor first to activate that. Reading the e-mail is mandatory (many of them can be ignored, but some are required). I tried getting a second berry after this in earlier attempts, but I discovered I would have to leave Agate then return so I decided to ignore the Berry Master this time around. Disappointing, but there's not much I can do about that without costing me a huge amount of time.

Croconaw is purified, gaining 6 levels and evolves to Feraligatr. I rename to 'I' so it reduces text message length. Then I head straight to Mt Battle, dump everything in the PC except for Feraligatr, and prepare for the solo parts of my run. Couple of minor menu mistakes in this part, but nothing major. This is where I get to have the most fun, since almost everything in Mt Battle is weak to water :-) I save 5 minutes ahead of my expected time, and 45 minutes ahead of my test run, so I'm well on course for a good final time.

  • A 100% snags run won't work if you don't snag Hitmontop when you first encounter it. Also, you should put Umbreon first on your party so when you face Wynaut, Mirror Coat won't affect Umbreon since Dark-types are immune to Psychic-types.

  • Skrub appears in the Shadow Pokemon Lab and in the Snagem Hideout. Both places I can also snag Hitmontop, but it is better for me to KO Hitmontop now for two main reasons: 1) it is a tricky snag, even with Ultra Balls, and 2) Croconaw badly needs as much exp as he can get. This is also another reason not to use Umbreon, because he drains exp away from Croconaw. Umbreon is also 10 levels behind Wynaut, so even with STAB Bite he will only 4HKO.

  • Another reason is that Hitmontop is replaced by a higher level Medicham, which hits even harder than Hitmontop. There is a method to my madness, even if its not always apparent. Throwing Umbreon into the mix would cost both exp and time. My main goal for reducing time in battles is to reduce the number of animations that appear, which is why Segment 11 will feature a solo Feraligatr. Look out for that one when I can finally finish it, it will be longer than Segment 7

  • "Croconaw is purified, gaining 6 levels which is just enough to let it evolve."

It actually evolves at Lv30. Yeah, who knows why it wasn't evolved in the first place then...

  • Oof, I'm so used to RBY where the good starters evolve at L36. I forgot Croconaw evolves at L30. As for why its unevolved, maybe the original trainer wanted to get its moves early? :-p

  • hey i need hitmontop to get ho-oh and i KO'd it the first two times is there any other way i can get it?

  • Very nice work. Also, even though I probably won't get to see it again, I'm ecstatic that you'll be using a Medicham, it's one of my favorite species of Pokemon. :D

Anyway, not to offend you, but why didn't you just rename Croconaw/Feraligatr, "A"? To my understanding it would've reduced the text message length(s) by the same amount, and it would've been quicker to select in the menu. Or am I mistaken, good sir??
