You´re right. But you should do this starting on higher frets though. When I started I did what you said from the first fret and on the third day I got like an electric shock on my hand so big that I almost quitted. I started over again, but I was always afraid of getting one of those shocks again.

This works on guitar. Not on bass guitar unless you're someone with really big hands.

why "if you want an exercise" dont you just play scales? those are way more useful. Both for your sound of hearing and making music yourself because you know all the scales well and can use them shortly after each other and on every position on the bass guitar.. thats my advice.. play scales.. lots of them and many different scales
