It's the case with lots of movies. Sometimes you might even get a different ending, like it was the case with SALT. I guess it's supposed to motivate people to go to the movies AND buy the dvd later as well. But simply cutting some scenes is lame. it's like saying "go to the movies, or you won't see the whole picture, hurr!"

OK random question people: I saw this in theaters & I specificaly remember a longer version of the "crab scene" where the Narrator introduces the crab & goes into how he's stranded on Vogssphere and sending an SOS etc. It setup the INSTANT DEATH gag much better, but for some reason they've taken it out of the Network TV & DvD versions. It makes u wonder why the crab is happy 2 C the heroes crash land! Does anyone else remember this in the theatrical version? Its been driving me nuts! LOL
