I agree with Guro Dino ,very well elaborated on the different origins from our so many regions of the country . I myself prefer to immerse ones self first into the cultures in order to understand the the art . Mabuhay to all our practicioners and the many systems that is pinoy.

Arnis is from the root word ARNES-(Filipino word) or DEKOLORES-(Spanish word) means camouflage.... I don't know that ARNIS-word is from Latin word? haha...
-
Yes, Kali is a word used in native dialect , arnis and eskrima as well as Kuntaw are not indigenous to marilikas ( Philipine islaands). many people often are confused by the poorly educated arnis and eskrima instructors certified after one or two weeks in training. and believe thier teachers word as fact without researching

well, arnis/escrima, as a martial/tribal art, is rather a nameless, individual fighting method. there are no records that give us a slight hint at the true name(s) of filipino martial arts.

That is funy since eskrima is a latin word and not native to the islands. I allwasy laugh when I hear someone say escrima or arnis since they are both european words.

Translated as A Body of Knowledge in the Sport of Arnis, Written in archaic Tagalog. The first widely released documentation on FMA. The first publication to mention the word kali. Book Editor, Buenaventura Mirafuente, wrote the short section on the history of arnis, asserting that kali was the original name of arnis at the time the Spaniards came.
