We call those trucks in the states single screws. It stands for single drive axle. In states like Colorado that get heavy snow those are the first trucks made to shut down or use tire chains. Single axle trucks cause the the problems in PA and NY in winter. That's the main reason you see with twin drive axles and twin trailer axles here. For safety. Why they make trucks run single axle and put multiple axles on trailers sure isn't good for safety.

@bbaker904 Interesting... the main reason this truck's stymied by a couple of inches of (wet / sticky) snow is that snowy conditions are so rare in the UK. We've had a couple of good (snowy :) ) winters recently, but it can easily be 5 or 10 years until the next significant fall. Not only are the trucks lacking chains or twin axles, drivers often have little recent experience of driving in snowy conditions.

Hi there, @TheJohnbob94, it's the c**t with the camera here. I'd arrived on the scene after digging my way through deep drifts that were blocking a hundred yard long lane that was the sole access for five households apart from my own, and I was taking a short breather before turning round and digging back through the other side of the lane. How do you know I didn't help out after I stopped filming and started digging back through the snow filling other side of the lane? Show your working.

This is why during the winter months I strap one of those "bags of sand" used to throw in the back of cars to the cat walk behind the sleeper of the truck. When I get stuck or on ice I open it and throw a few pounds in front and on top of the drives and down the road a little bit and keep on going! It's way cheaper than a tow AND easier than shoveling!OR a 5 gallon bucket of sand works as well. I do keep a flat nosed D handle short shovel under the bunk year round for those just in case moments.
