In Harlem, on 117th street and 7th Avenue, lays one of New York's hidden treasures, a flower shop run by a man named Phil Young who approaches his role as florist as a sort of therapist to the community. He runs Carolina Flower Shop Too, the oldest African American owned flower company in NYC, founded by his grandfather, Samuel Young in 1939.
Recently, Phil (like many other mom and pop Harlem businesses) has been struggling to keep his business afloat due to the harsh economy, and needs your support. Visit the shop Friday, Feb. 4th @ noon as part of Carolina Flower Shop Day. The shop will be receiving numerous proclamations.
