http://www.pbs.org/pov/disturbingtheuniverse/ In this speech that is believed to have taken place in February, 1970, William Kunstler talks about what he believes to be the "terrible myth" of organized society. He says that because people trust in the established legal system, they tend to accept outcomes without much consideration. This blind trust has given governments the opportunity to use the law to put people to death throughout history, because the "aura of legality" is a very powerful thing and "all tyrants learn that it is far better to do this thing through some semblance of legality than to do it without that pretense." POV's William Kunstler: Disturbing the Universe premieres on most local PBS stations Tuesday, June 22 at 10 PM. It will also be available in its entirety online from June 23, 2010 to September 21, 2010. Be sure to log on for our live filmmaker chat directly after the east coast broadcast at 11:30 PM ET at http://www.pbs.org/pov/disturbingtheuniverse/ask_the_filmmaker.php

  • This is a great clip because it reminds us all about why the National Defence Authorization Act is actually illegal. If Americans do not repeal the act, then the indefinite detention and execution of American citizens within the country (which the act allows) will have an "aura of legality".

  • @ondalokalphx and now I love you. :)

  • i ♥ this man! ♥

  • One of the greatest Americans, a true hero of justice and fighting the scourge of injustice. This documentary is precious!

  • What would he have to say about the immigration debate? Promoting the criminalization of people for escaping extreme poverty and violence in South America, Jesus had to migrate to Egypt to avoid been executed, he was an alien too, according to the "legality" of today's standards him and his family would have been called criminals deserving deportation. We need a champion like Kunstler, thank you for posting this video.

  • parlance by the name MI6 Y ME 2~+~+~*

  • Wow this is very profound and thought provoking. I sometimes wonder are we devolving into the type of society that favors on government proclamation over innovation. OH snap that is already happened.
