  • I'm a competitive gymnast, nationally-rated men's judge, and former NCAA gymnast.

2-second hold = hold under the old Code.

So on YTY's p-bar routine, the four holds were:

    1. Backuprise handstand

    2. Frontuprise handstand (after the piked Belle, before the Healy)

    3. Straddle-cut to L-hold

    4. Press handstand from L

Hence, adding 0.1 added to start value (which was initially incorrect) would be offset by the 0.2 deduction for the 4th hold, meaning his score would have been 0.1 lower than it was.

  • how many times does she need to say apparatus

  • @1andonlyCobra Kupets had more overall problems with her routine (she had two major balance checks) and there was a few tiny things the judges took off for. Paul's vault was technically very very good other than the fall, which is only .5 off (his vault started out of 9.9).

  • that japan gymnast had a beautiful tucked kovac.

  • i was training in the same gym as the commentator for years....

  • lol the lady almost had a heart attack when the japanese guy fell on his rabalko

  • thank you for breaking all that down; Tim Daggett did the same thing once the protest was filed and noone else seemed to point it out.

2 other questions though- 1) Why did Wei just drop off the bar instead of trying to muscle back up or take an extra swing? Was the deduction same either way? 2) Why did Hamm who almost fell off the podium altogether on Vault in AA score higher than Kupets who stayed on the Beam in her AA final? 9.15x vs 8.975....ideas?

  • those eagle holds kill everyone

  • So...I'm trying to figure out which were the four static holds here -- were there three statically held handstands? Since I don't do gymnastics, I'm not sure what counts as a static handstand vs. what might count as a handstand in preparation for another move. Any gymnasts out there, please help. Thanks.

  • she said "there's a lot of whistling in the crowd...i hope that it's not designed to distract this (Yang) gymnast" What does that even mean? does she really think an athens crowd was trying to distract a korean gymnast?
