Xvidcap audio is difficult to use, since it relies on an audio patch (padsp) in order to get sound to work. Padsp routes sound through Pulse Audio (which you must have installed). You must start Xvidcap from the terminal (the Linux command line interpretor) like this "padsp xvidcap" (without quotes) Xvidcap has 2 advantages over ffmpeg (1) you can pause (2) you can grab a screen size on the fly. It is like ffmpeg in that (1) no processing time (2) no jaggies. Work on xvidcap has been discontinued and its audio relies on /dev/dsp (device, digital signal processor). With ffmpeg you can use /dev/dsp/ or ANY audio input setting.

  • Note that Pulse Audio Volume control appears to have defaults that start the Monitor Internal Audio Analog Stereo set to mute, you have to go to the Input Devices tab, select Monitors on the Show drop down (lower right) and then uncheck the mute buttons. for more info search for Pulse Audio problems, this will save much wailing and gnashing of teeth.

  • @grstar85 thanks for the tip. As you were able to see (but I was not) I am almost totally perplexed by the complexity of this. Your good eyes saw what was going on. Thank you for watching and double thank you for the contribution. Best regards, Pop.

  • Thanks alot for making this video, it brought some clarification to how the heck the internal sound works and I definitely agree that they have made it immensely complicated and not very userfriendly.
