My old '99 Ranger which had around 115K miles on it. Don't own the truck anymore but if you have a remedy for this problem, would be glad to know, especially for future reference!!

  • It might've been the CPS.

I never did get to trying to figuring this out. I ended up getting a different truck because of some other issues..

I do however work at a car dealer and I drove a 2004 Ranger yesterday. Same noise...

  • Did you get it figured out, yet?

  • Sort of.. I usually dont go on the freeway, but I've had to go places and after running on the freeway it's usually squeak-less the next morning. Of course a couple days after that, it returns... I'm just stumped, really.

  • I'm thinking it's more the pulley, since the belt does look pretty recent (I bought the truck about a year ago). But I'm just not totally sure, I'd have to look into it more when we have better weather here again in Seattle..=/

  • camshaft postion sensor Shaft!!!!! common problem on the 3.0 motor its located on the rear of the motor

  • I have a 2000 Ford Ranger 3.0V6 and it's making the same noise. It's the belt tensioner, it's located below the idler pulley.

Try spraying some silicone spray between the two wide disks of the tensioner. Also spray some silicone down the hole on the top left side of the tensioner. Use one of those red spray sticks that comes with the silicone spray. It works for mine for a while but will start squealing 2 or 3 days later. I'm going to change out my tensioner.

  • Tensioner Assembly & Drivebelt

  • i own the same truck. and for the last 8-9 years

its been doing the same thing. this is just an idler or tentioner pulley.

nothing to really worry about :)

    minor...

  • i am working on the same niose, i ran the truck without the belt and the dam noise is still there, it seams like it coming from the back of the engine, so im going to check the CMP sensor today. But the hard thing about it though is that it is intermitten, so it hard to verify exsacly where it coming from.

  • @hom2fu i did that with mine and it kind of fixed it but there is still that sqeek/ chirp

  • holy shit, i have the exact same model year and color, except I have 80 thousand on mine. love the thing to death

  • try camshaft synchronizer. $60 on ebay

  • @nascarguy101 Yepp. That ended up being the problem. The guy was screaming that he was stuck.

  • i own a 99 ford ranger and i have the same problem :(
