When a baby boy is born in a shabby California
gold mining camp and suddenly orphaned,
the miners decide to keep the infant and raise him themselves. Because he seems to bring good fortune, in the form of a lump of gold discovered by the scruffy giant Kentuck (Randy Quaid), the baby is affectionately dubbed "The Luck." For a time, contentment and prosperity reign in Roaring
Camp, but the powers of Luck seem to run
out when the baby is accidentally drowned
during a flood. With his symbol of belief
snatched away from him, Kentuck loses his
will to live. "This tenderly executed production
blossoms with warmth, pathos, and humor
into a vitalizing adaptation of Bret Harte's
touching classic."-Booklist.
