I was 17 when he was elected. I had no faith in this country. I was disillusioned with Carter's handling of the Iranian hostage crisis and when Selective Service was reinstated I had all but packed my bags for Canada. Then Reagan took office and I began to listen. Then I began to gain hope. Then came confidence. Then came patriotism. This man taught me what I had forgotten: Love of Country. I remembered I cried my eyes out when this was broadcast. Thank you, Mr. President, for your service.

What was the debt when Reagan entered office, a figure that caused him to denounce Jimmy Carter in the most opprobrious terms. What was the debt when Reagan left office? Reagan was not a libertarian but rather a conservative who preserved freedom while maintaining order. Paul would destroy order. Reagan was very smart and candid at how he approached situations.
