3 part series marking the ten-year anniversary of the war in Afghanistan, telling the story of the conflict through the words and pictures of the young soldiers themselves

Episode 2 - The Invisible Enemy The plight of the first troops sent to Afghanistan's Helmand Province in 2006, focusing on how, three years later, improvised explosive devices had changed the war. Captain Alex Rawlins films his men from 1st Battalion, the Grenadier Guards, and captures events surrounding the loss of Private Jamie Janes, who stood on a landmine during a patrol. The programme shows how the 23-year-old guardsman's death became a turning point in the British public's awareness of the human cost of IEDs. Narrated by Shaun Dooley.

  • I cannot understand how you can all argue about what kind of soldiers are the best. Every single soldier out there fighting in a war are risking their lives for everyone back home. You CANNOT say what it is like out there. Only soldiers who have been their and fought understand what its like. I find it disgraceful that people can comment on whether they are good soldiers or not.

  • As an American, it would be a pleasure fighting in a fox hole with a Brit soldier.

And as a matter of fact, if I had to choose who to fight with the Brits would be my first choice hands down.

  • good luck in the next ten years!

  • @TheIceland2000 they have not failed, they are having a great success, their pokets can tell that. People killed are just collateral damage.

  • @TheIceland2000, if politicians and businessmen win the war means that war is over, same thing with their profits. THEY DONT WANT TO WIN THE WAR. Although military fight because they have to do this in defence of their countries, this time they are not fighting for this reason but commercial benefits. Taliban threat is a myth, they are not professional like our boys, but there are other commercial benefits if western forces control Afghanistan. That's why the boys are there.

  • The soldiers on the ground are brave men, but the soldiers at their desks and the politicians behind leading them are not the same level whatsoever.

If it was the rebel's intention to force NATO to use almost force and destruction, they succeed completely. Politically aims and military training at the highest levels failed to identify the enemy's intention and the probable effects of the bombing campaign in regard to to overall strategy.

  • @yamaspec war is money but soldiers do fight for our freedoms and no matter what i will always respect what they do because it takes a real man to do what they do and its not their fault its our corrupt government pigs who start wars

  • @MrAfghanPrince i feel bad for you it must suck being from such a shitty country

  • @khan4118 FUCK THE TALIBAN

  • IN 2011 americans and allies are running like a wet cat

  • TALIBAN WIN THE WAR

  • @TheThickoNicko I think you're wrong man. They are NOT there risking their lives for everyone back home. They are there because they like it. They were eager to go even before to join the military. You know that man, everyone does. If they wanted that risk to live the experience of their lives is Ok. Military always will speak about patriotism, honour, medals and all that shit, but that is its business. Military has to do that to keep doing the war.
