The Western Carolina University's Pride of the Mountains Marching Band marching down Colorado Blvd. in the 122nd Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade on Saturday, January 1st 2011.
2011 makes this band's first appearance at this event. Known for performing a medley of upbeat pop tunes, the band incorporates electric guitars, singers, and other musical elements not typically associated with marching bands. The unit, whose membership today stands at more than 380 strong, was the 2009 recipient of the prestigious Sudler Trophy, the nation's highest and most coveted award for college and university marching bands.

I just found out you guys played You by Suburban Legends and immediately has to find a video of it. I absolutely loved it! As a HUGE fan of SL and former high school marching band memeber, I totally appreciated it. :)

No need to defend WCU as the best band at the Rose Parade, and especially the Band fest. I saw ALL the bands at the band fest. All 3 segments. I hate to tell the Bird folks, but they werent even the best HIGH SCHOOL band in that Bandfest, let alone the best overall band. The best HS band was Owasso, and it wasnt close. WCU best overall, TCU should have bought tickets. Wis I dont even remember, which ought to tell you something, NCCU...Too much talk too little blow. Good job Cats.

@maydevilcry345 We have quite a few members who march in crown and a few other DCI groups.

to whom it may concern...if there is any question as to who had the better band, just look at the poll on ktla.com. all birdville did great and i commend them for getting invited to march in the parade. that being said, western carolina is a college band and all birdville is a high school. the skill level required and the overall expectations are different.
