RoboCup WorldCup 2009: Stage 2/ In the bar (Demo Challenge)
The robot has to function in a bar/restaurant setting as a waiter (serving drinks/snacks, focus on Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) by taking orders) or a bartender (pouring/mixing drinks, focus on HRI manipulation). Other roles (host, preparing snacks etc.) are allowed but have to be asked for at least 3 weeks and approved by the TC at most 2 weeks before the competition starts. Be aware that
uids are used in the challenge! It is advisable to make the robot water resistant.
About RoboCup@Home:
RoboCup@Home is a new league inside the RoboCup competitions that focuses on real-world applications and human-machine interaction with autonomous robots. The aim is to foster the development of useful robotic applications that can assist humans in everyday life.
The ultimate scenario is the real world itself. To build up the required technologies gradually a basic home environment is provided as a general scenario. In the first years it will consist of a living room and a kitchen but soon it should also involve other areas of daily life, such as a garden/park area, a shop, a street or other public places

About RoboCup:
RoboCup is an international research and education initiative. Its goal is to foster artificial intelligence and robotics research by providing a standard problem where a wide range of technologies can be examined and integrated.
The concept of soccer-playing robots was first introduced in 1993. Following a two-year feasibility study, in August 1995, an announcement was made on the introduction of the first international conferences and football games. In July 1997, the first official conference and games were held in Nagoya, Japan. Followed by Paris, Stockholm, Melbourne and Seattle where the annual events attracted many participants and spectators. The 6th RoboCup 2002 was held in Fukuoka, Japan in cooperation with Busan, Korea, while the 7th edition in 2003 took place in Padua, Italy. In 2004 in Lisbon, Portugal. 2005 in Osaka, Japan, 2006 in Bremen, Germany, 2007 in Atlanta, USA, 2008 in Suzhou, China, and and now in Graz Austria. The events were covered by national and international media all over the world.
