  • Sammy - the media beat up thing and your meeting with this family must have been very difficult. I hope your OK

  • Paramedics in NSW (Australia) can give up to 32 different kinds of medications (as an Intensive Care paramedic and even more as an Extended Care paramedic)...

    Rather handy!

then again you have to spend 4 years at university for that (Intensive Care Paramedic) and do at least one degree...

A long road and one I have embarked upon - I must be crazy.

it is much the same in the UK (where this is from).

All Paramedics in Emergency Ambulances are degree qualified and can give meds.

  • so he died?

  • Paramedic training in the US is nothing compared to UK, Australia, and Canada...

In Canada, UK, & Australia there are 4 year BSc Degree's in Paramedicine/Paramedical Science. You learn all your advanced Biological Sciences, Emergency Scenarios, Pharmacology, etc... In US all you need is some Community College LOL :P And the salary in the US for Paramedics is the equivalent to someone working at Burger King pretty much.

Paramedic education needs to be improved in the US :P

  • the strength of a particular medication depends on your personal body chemistry & tolerance. i have chronic medical issues & regularly have brain surgeries, so the pain medication i take is 80x stronger than morphine scientifically. yet when i take it, it really doesn't feel like i've taken anything at all - it helps dull the pain, but it doesn't affect me mentally.

  • I was one of the land crew on this job. Through nobody's intention we always get made to look like bumbling idiots who have to be bailed out by the helimed guys. Tbh working in the Peaks we get alot of stuff like this, and it's the time to hospital where the helicopter comes in most valuable. Everyone has their part in the chain

  • Best job in the World

  • @rtaggart497 morphine is very strong i was in a accident were a bunch of boulders fell i got hit and 3 of my ribs were broken it hurt alot but they gave me morphine and it went away in a jiff my freind jon however suffered orthopedic injuryis to his neck

  • It is in fact nicknamed horse tranq because that's what it's used for, as you just said. Hence why people break into vet clinics and steal it...to get high unfortunately.

  • There was a doctor on-board throughout and always is on-board the particular Air Ambulance. All Paramedics are trained to Give Pain relieving medication such as morphine and due to the fact a doctor was on scene he was able to give Ketamine to the casualty.

  • Morphine is allowed.. I'm from Belgium and i gave it allready a copple of times.. Buth in de helicopter or the emergency/reanimation car there is allways a special emergency doctor on board.
