Misseyem is right, Harry Roy wrote and recorded this song in 1931. Crumb covered it in 1978. Whitcomb did so in 1976. More recently Blag Dahlia has covered it. You can easily find this information in any worthwhile encyclopedia or even wikipedia.
you all have it slightly wrong...yes Robert Crumb recorded it as did Ian Whitcomb...but I believe the real original was in 1931 by Harry Roy's band....you can listen to it on here at youtube...L.

Actually, you're both right but ChicagoJake99 is correct in saying this particular version is R. Crumb's, not Ian Whitcomb's version.
