@Calicat1994 with these people using the big pole, called a Garocha, they do not trot. They are using the pole to separate certain steers for penning. In Spain there is a competition for knocking a cow down with the pole, it is used as a test in the younger female cows for the breeding towards the brave bulls. If the cow does not jump up mad and try to fight back, she is sold for meat. Only the brave ones are kept for reproducing the traits of bravery. You dont want to trot, the pole may break.

I would love to teach something like this to my horse, but he is deathly afraid of cows...it is something we discovered as he got older (in his teens), and haven't had the chance to correct yet...maybe with one of the new babies....Tell me, in the drassage-like test, is troting required? I would love to see if my gaited horses would be up to the challenge of the lower levels of this sport?

@elbomberse: Really the only thing needed for working equitation is the horse to be collected and light in the front end/mouth and carrying themselves. Lusitanos have a more natural tendency to do this, more so then other breeds. But all horses can excel at this and improve their confirmation by doing at least light collection self-carriage. This is the guiding principle of dressage and WE. I'd love to see other breeds do WE, even at lower levels.

@elbomberse: quarter horses/cutting horses would have a great chance, but there is a big difference in cow cutting (for show) and what these horses do. They have to be even quicker than what is required for show cutting and have a much more "bravado" than is usually shown, in order to charge the cattle (which all keep their horns unlike cows used in America for cutting). Like lykkebianca said, they'd also have to excel in the other tests as well.
Vega lusitanos differ from other lines too

The european championships are beeing held this weekend 31st of august and 1st of september.
Unfortunately-no cowtest, due to the mouth and foot diseaserestrictions in england.
I´m leaving tomorrow and we bring the filmcamera, so we will add some films as soon as we are back!

Have you tried american quarter horse or cutting horses for this practice?
i am from mexico and is very interesting what this lusitano horses can do ,
Would this horses be better than other horses for charreria? or any other vaquero dicipline?
we use american quarter horse for all the charreria stuff some have tried the aztec horse but is not better than the cutting horse

elbomberse: I think all horses can be used for WE.But since the cow test is just 1 of 4 diciplines the horse must be able to do in Working Equitation, one must choose a horse that can do all.Also dressage, maneabiliy and speed test.See other videos of WE and see what I mean.

Lykkebianca;
where you at the show in Lisbon? I was there and I was sitting with one of the judges during the whole competition.
The english time withdraw from the cowtest since they thought it was too difficult for them with only three riders.( The forth horse was not alowed to continue after the dressagetest, where it showed lameness.)
