RAGA MIYAN KI MALHAR. Here's another brief, random clip from a live concert played in 1996, in the Malhar Festival. This clip gives one a glimpse of the "alap", or the slow movement, and the pristine beauty of this majestic monsoon melody. It evokes vivid visions of the magic of incessant rains, dark cloud laden skies, colourful rainbows, the rich smells of the earth and foliage, lush, green mountains and meadows, gushing waters of brimming rivers, of the distant thunder and lightening, and the birds singing their own sweet songs.Such is the beauty of this raga that, it never fails to create a mesmerising effect on the listener! I played this raga for approximately 110 minutes in this performance.

  • Thank you for your kind compliments.

Sorry, folks. Unfortunately, this recording is an excerpt of a live concert , & is not available commercially on CD. This rendition is of almost 2 hours duration, & hence, cannot possibly be uploaded to you tube.

However, I will try & upload a few more sections as & when time permits.

    Rajendra Teredesai

  • Patterns such as 'Ga ma re sa', the inverse meenD 'pa Ga' and 'ma pa Ni dha ni sa' that occur repeatedly in this raaga are absolutely mesmerizing. I also love the manner in which musicians hold on to the komal nishad (Ni) before sliding down to the dha. It creates a hypnotic effect.

  • At par with Pt. Hari Prasad's rendition .I must say, the more I listen to it ,the more I am more convinced that this rendition of the Jor is the most beautiful I have heard. Pt.Chaurasia's version of the Aalap and Jor is 45 minutes long! Here you have summed up in 4 minutes the very soul of this ever so spell binding Raga. Where can I find the complete performance?

  • mian ki malahar is good to hear during evening hours

  • Could you please give the track details.

  • Transports one to heaven. Where can I buy the full record?

When it ends, its like going from swargalok to narkalok.
