One important way that God shows His love for us is by calling prophets, who are given the priesthood—the power and authority given to man to act in God's name for the salvation of His children. Prophets learn the gospel of Jesus Christ by revelation. They in turn teach the gospel to others and testify of Jesus Christ as the Savior and Redeemer. The teachings or prophets are found in sacred books called scriptures.

Our Father's plan for us to be successful in this life and to return to live with Him is called the gospel of Jesus Christ, with Jesus' Atonement at the center of that plan. Through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, we can receive eternal life if we exercise faith in Jesus Christ repent, are baptized by immersion for the remission of sings, receive the gift of the Holy Ghost and endure to the end. "All people have the gift of agency, which includes the freedom to accept or reject the gospel as taught by the prophets and apostles. Those who choose to obey are blessed, but those who ignore, reject, or distort the gospel do not receive God's promised blessings.

God revealed the gospel of Jesus Chris to Adam and gave him priesthood authority. Adam was the first prophet on the earth. By revelation, Adam learned of mankind's proper relationship with God the Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost; of the Atonement and Resurrection of Jesus Christ; and of the first principles and ordinances of the gospel. Adam and Eve taught their children these truths and encouraged them to develop faith and to live the gospel in all aspects of their lives. Adam was followed by other prophets, but over time the posterity of Adam rejected the gospel and fell into apostasy, choosing to be unrighteous.

Thus began the pattern of prophetic dispensations that makes up much of the recorded history of the Old Testament. Heavenly Father revealed His gospel through direct communication to prophets such as Noah, Abraham, and Moses. Each prophet was called by God to begin a new dispensation of the gospel. To each of these prophets God granted priesthood authority and revealed eternal truths.

  • I am so grateful to God for restoring prophets to the modern earth who testify of Jesus Christ and bring continuing revelation to the earth. The gospel of Jesus Christ is alive and vibrant. All are invited to study the words of the prophets and then ask God if they are true.

  • Jesus is the Mediator. See my video entitled: Mormon Doctrine: The Mediator - Mormon Theology.

However, God has always called prophets to be his mouthpiece on earth, including Joseph Smith.

  • @adalbertomodesusa im a Catholic but if no religion will save you how will you know Jesus? how will you know your faith how will you know truth? yes religion wont save you but it brings you closer to Jesus witch in turn saved you

  • @kingblake87

Actually many Prophets and Patriarchs went to war. Moses, David, Joshua, Saul, Abraham, Elijah

All of them killed under the commandment of God, however under the new covenant, violence is rebuked

God Bless and don't be so harsh, if you insult Joseph Smith someone who loves him will only resent you and close their ears to your message.

  • Religion will NEVER bring anybody to the kingdom of God. People, be aware: THERE IS NO SALVATION THROUGH RELIGION!!!!!!! Only by the grace of God, and faith in Jesus we are saved. No other way!! no church, no prophet, no pastor, nobody! NOBODY! only Jesus, because what He did, not because what we do! Also, Read Hebrews 9:27. There is no "second" chance! Salvation MUST be accepted while we are here, breathing! God woudn't change His own words! Repent now! Salvation is here! Jesus is the Lord!

  • Look at the other Prophets and compare them to Joseph Smith. Prophets gave signs and miracles. Joseph Smith gave none. A Prophet never raised his hand or sword to defend himself. Joseph Smith used a gun to defend himself from his assassins (therefore he wasnt a martyr). When a Prophet was slandered, his only response was the Word of God. Joseph Smith burned down a printing press for slandering the Mormon teachings. And a Prophet never made himself the head of anything. General Joseph Smith did.

  • Adam was not a prophet. He preached to no one. Prophets told people the consequences of their actions, Nathan to David, Samuel to Saul, Moses to Pharoah, etc.

  • Why prophets?

    Who needs them?

  • Possibly, But I see the fruits of the spirit in my life growing in increasing measure as well yet the Holy Spirit has told me that the BOM is false. So, if we use those to judge wether or not a book is from God then GOd is contradicting himself. We must admit we believe the ways we do firstly because we feel it to be true, but feelings are often wrong. Is there something we can compare LDS teachings to, to see if they are true or not?

  • Paul talks about the fruits of the Spirit in Galatians 5. That's how I know it was the Holy Ghost.

  • How do you know it was the Holy Ghost?

  • Jesus taught that He would send the Comforter to teach us all things. (John 14:26) It is through the Holy Ghost that I know the Book of Mormon is the word of God.
