1980 NZ National Surfing Titles New Plymouth

The National titles were held in New Plymouth in Dec 1979. Some footage of the titles held in horrible windy conditions. Most of the surfing is at Fitzroy Beach which was sheltered and had some great waves. We camped at the caravan park which was where I filmed from.

Faaaaaaaaark thats some ooooooold school shiiiiiiiiiit. Iv lived in taranaki all my life, and still remember when i could drive my trusty morris minor down the wall there on the right hand side of groin and blazeup HARD!! reversing back was so much haha. Waiwais rules.Thanks for the step back in time buddy!

nice vintage footage, wish more people had footage of taranaki like this, np and hawera have changed a fair bit over time even at my age (born 1991)

The waves near the end are all at Fitzroy Beach in New Plymouth.
