I commend the sit-in at Stanford and congrats on affiliating with the WRC. I was one of 31 to get arrested at Penn State while demanding that our president sign the DSP. I hope to see all of the USAS affiliates and peoples interested in workers' rights at the Bolder Colorado conference, so to share experiences and opinions. In solidarity, Anna.
Most sweatshops that are protested in the United States actually pay far more than the average national income. In Honduras, a 70hr/wk job pays up to 700% the avg. The US used to use plenty of child labor, but now we're more developed and our citizens expect a higher standard of working conditions. If you get rid of many of these sweatshops, the children who work there will be out of a job and will have to find shittier work for worse pay or turn to prostitution.
The WRC and DSP do not "get rid of sweatshops." They improve conditions in existing factories. I'm getting tired of explaining this. Go to workersrights(dot)org and read it yourself.
Maybe I do feel the issue, but just don't seem to feel that making noises on the street and dancing around is the best way to approach them. But then again, maybe I'm just a bad person. Loud Noises and repetitive chants just don't sit well with me. Its like nails on a chalkboard to me.
I was at first skeptical about this campaign. This action proves to me that these students are dedicated. Moreover they are extremely organized and well informed. If you have doubts, check out their website at sweatfree dot stanford dot edu
this is not true. those students are dedicated and know a lot about what they are talking about. please don't judge the students as if they're amateurs. they're not.
