This video was taken on a Canon PowerShot S95, about 1/4 mile south of the Marfa lights viewing area outside Marfa, Texas, approximately 12:30am on 02 January 2011. I had been watching these lights for about 1.5 hours and they became very active after midnight. They appear over a vast empty expanse of the Chihuahuan Desert, as they have for over a century.

  • Stars would be out of the field of vision at the very top...these aren't stars. As the vehicles go by, you can see how close to the ground these light must be, even if they're a long way off, which they must be. I drove down the road to try to triangulate their distance somewhat. They don't seem to move in the video, but they did move in erratic fashion in all directions.

  • I've seen them 3 times out of six or seven attempts. I've sen them 'perform' cartwheel formations. Always later after sunset, past 11. I haven't stayed out much pst 1 AM. And every time I saw them it was cold. Nobody can explain them, not even those who explain them.

  • I just got back from seeing these. I figured it would be a fun kick for Halloween. I was not expecting it to be so utterly fascinating. They just pop in and out of view, in groups or as individuals. They will be bright or dim, move left or right, up or down, quickly or slowly. I cannot thing of anything that would cause them. It definitely wasn't cars. Cars couldn't move as quickly as I saw them move and then just stop and change directions.

    Truly fascinating.

  • I thought those were debunked to be nothing more than natural earth lights or car head lights.

  • I've seen this in person around 5-6 times now and depending on the day if they are active or not, it's always something them to see them with your own eyes haha. Nice video, very good quality!!

  • Nice steady shooting jim d.

  • Ships in orbit.
