@playgtrcouk I also learned this exercise as "The spider", som guitar teachers call it fixed finger exercise, nevertheless, it's a great exercise.:)

2weeks later update: thanks a lot for this exercise, i enjoy playing it as a warm-up. it helps to get some good control in the left hand!

yeah my apologese, i realised theres many spiders after i wrote the comment. Would be good to make another vid with the diagonal method as crosspicking is also involved.

that is not the spider!
that is simply 1234 1234 etc down the strings mate. The spider is a diagonal fingering up and down the strings...

...believe or not there are quite a few exercises that guitarists call 'the spider'. This is the one I was taught many moons ago. Whatever you call it, I assure you this is a great exercise!

I had never heard of it, but i just had fun learning how to do it. i can do it now but im just wondering how do i apply this to better my guitar playing?

this is not something that you apply to your playing like you would do with a phrase or a riff. This exercise betters the posture of your left hand and makes you play with the very tip of your left hand fingers...you will notice the benefits by doing this over a period of time.
