EMT-1: More facts about this accident in addition to those given by some earlier posters who knew what they're talking about. The right wing separated due to the heavy landing on the right Landing Gear. Fuel spewed from the ruptured wing tanks, leading to the flash fire seen in the video. Fortunately, because of the heavy rain, much of the initial fire did not take hold, while any remaining was quickly extinguished by the airport rescue team. EMT-2: reason why 312 pax & crew survived while only 3 perished. The fuselage came to rest inverted due to it flipping when the wing snapped off. At least 2 or 3 other MD-11 landings have ended in similar circumstances.
