@1122Mrdaddy One thing about this halau is that they use the singers that made the songs popular. These songs are played on the radio, and if possible they will get the original artist to sing for them. This one is Hoku Zuttermeister, in 2005, they had Ke'alii Reischel, in 2004, Kaumakaiwa Kanaka'ole for Nani Ahiahi and Kainani Kahaunaele singing Ka Hinano 'o Puna. It makes a difference when you can get the original artist singing a popular song, and then to see hula being danced to it, perfect!
@hankakah Every word you described about Hawaiian music is very much true :) I've been apart of Heilani Halau here in Australia and have come to love, enjoy and respect the Hawaiian culture. This is absolutely beautiful, I love their hula noho, they make it look so effortless. Just beautiful, I would be so happy to dance half as good as these beautiful ladies. I'm Samoan and haven't known much about hula dancing, now I am just IN LOOOOVE with it :) mahalo
@hankakah thank you, I will. ^_^ I dance too, but I'm on hiatus. definitely no where near as good as the dancers in kamuela, but I hope to be in those stands one day and cheer them on and maybe get an autograph from the kumu
@deeplydeepali np, enjoy! You'll also hear at the beginning the announcers describe what the songs are about. I am part Hawaiian, am glad that Youtube allows people across the world to watch and listen to videos. I am biased, but I think that Hawaiian music is so relaxing, peaceful, meaningful. They have double meanings, a song about a flower, thing, could also be about a person. So many times there are a lot of love songs, endearing, think of these as singing about something you cherish deeply.
@deeplydeepali watch the very beginning of the video, you will see ka'i (entrance), and ho'i (exit ) with "Lei Ola'a." The mele or song for their main hula is "Ola'a Beauty."
