  • @aaronsande his high notes were mostly forced and sounded like a goat.

  • @GermanOperaSinger his best records are the few acousticals from 1925.

  • I have this 'Werther' and having listened to many of Thill's recordings I have to say he wasn't in very good voice that day. Regardless, he was one of the greatest. By the way on the Marston transfer (CD) there are several bonus tracks at the end and you can hear a difference in the quality of his singing when you compare them directly.

  • This entire recording is legendary, Thill and Vallin at their peaks! Everyone is outstanding. How Thill captures the sense of desperation in the character, particularly in the second stanza! As George Jellinek (The Vocal Scene on WQXR many years ago) said - these two are immortals! One of the greatest performances. Thank you!

  • Anecdote: durant l'enregistrement on a demandé à Thill s'il voulait reprendre le Pourquoi me réveiller, car il a légèrement craqué sur le second si. Il a dit: Non!

  • Finalmente! :) Poèmes d'Ossian by my absolute favorite Werther! I'm happy to see that this precious performance is finally out on youtube. Thanks a lot for making it available to everyone.

  • El más grande interprete de Werther. Admiro a Gedda y a Kraus pero este es sencillamente grandioso, ninguno me ha emocionado tanto.

  • @seektheforce I see "offended" in your comment, so I'm not going to elaborate. Gone down this road too many times. Message if you want a real discussion about this instead of just an argument.

  • @aaronsande about being pushed, I don't hear "pushed"

  • @seektheforce About which part?
