Al Sharpton in Eufaula, Alabama

Civil rights leader, Al Sharpton campaigns for Johnny Ford in Eufaula, Alabama. July 12 2010. Ford is seeking the Alabama state Senate seat for District 28. Ford and Sharpton assert that this seat should only be filled by a black candidate as their is a majority of black residents in the district Billy Beasley, a white pharmacist and a veteran state house representative from Clayton, Alabama beat Ford by 20 points in the primary but failed to capture an outright majority. The run-off is July 13. Approximately 120 people attended the rally. Myron Penn, a black attorney currently holds the seat and has endorsed Beasley.

I hate when he comes to town. I think it was 1984 the first time. We had a drunk take a cop's gun and the other cop shot him. White cops, black drunk. The black people in school all of a sudden wouldn't joke and carry on like we used to. They were hearing how whitey killed an innocent BLACK man. The cops were cleared after the investigation. I was 16. I think they went to trial, but I can't be sure. Race baiters come and Eufaula gets divided for a while. Every time.
