Dolly: Queen of the Street

Dolly Watson lived in her house on Claremont Road Leyton East London all of her life. At 94 years of age the Department of Transport came to evict her from her lifelong home. After a bitter struggle she was taken away to hospital and placed in an old peoples home which she hated. She passed away soon after. This film was made in tribute to her, the Queen of the Street.

Anyone not deeply, utterly, moved by this is totally alienated from any humanity within themselves. Excellently produced video. She and the movement will live on throughout history as a beacon of hope and resistance. I know it inspires me.

I grew up and lived on claremont road from 1974-1983 , i lived No 62 next to mrs Riddler, my aunt lived around the corner and her sister across the road on the top right corner, it was a nice road in those days, sad to see it go, shame on the Government and council for doing that, i know progress must happen but places like claremont road were all what was left of real traditional neighbourhoods that are now long gone

That just bought a tear to my eye, i used to visit Dolly and drink 'strong tea that you could stand your spoon in' during '94 and in the care home after. She was an amazing character.

i remember dolly when i worked on the m11 link, i was with J MURPHY & SONS at the time, they were a great firm, to many irish though for my liking

This all happened on our doorstep in Leytonstone. Dolly was not the only casualty - her son passed not long after; psychosis and cancer and PTD to too many friends

This was the first anti-road campaign I took part in, I remember Dolly. This is a touching, loving film. Thanks for posting it

This video just saddened me, as this just shows how much our government don't listen to it 's people who put them there in the first place and claiming this is what we we want. Although we don't this, it's what they want which is just about getting money from the contractors in terms of part of it goes into there pockets with no one knowing, which kills community's.
