CD Hovercraft - Sick Science! #045

Check out the experiment at http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/e... We used to think that building our own hovercraft was going to take a couple of trips to NASA. We quickly realized that it was a little iffy having jet engines and ultra-lightweight material anywhere near Steve. We had to develop our own design using everyday materials, and that's exactly what we did. Using a CD, a balloon, and a few other household items you can create a working hovercraft, too!

basically a reversed air hockey, the ballon pushes air below it, while the ballon itself is pulling it up, canceling out most of gravity and hopefully friction

Only a guess, but the balloon's air goes out of the holes at a high pressure, seeing how small they are, and the air pressure causes the CD to float slightly above the surface you set it on.

the cd is circular so the air is evenly distributed to the bottom wich makes it look like its hovering ^u^
