Cats sure are dumb. Don't even realize they're on the menu too.
I've seen cats bigger than that one carried away forever by smaller-sized hawks.

The eagle knew the cat was there, even before the cat knew the eagle was there. It also knew the cat would never attack. It was more interested in what the eagle was eating. If a truly insane cat turned up (and we all know they are out there!), the eagle with better eyesight would leave. Otherwise it would be like in the movie 'How to train your dragon' - no one would see it coming. I know cause I had a cat like that... I saw it one day per 4 to 6 weeks. It was happiest hunting for its own food.

Actually the cat would have probably made the hawk fly off just by instinct. Hawks attack from the air, on the ground they're vulnerable. If the cat had charged it would have won without a fight, but it lost its nerve. The hawk could have counterattacked later.
