To Me, To You - A Tribute to Texhnolyze (by Shio Yee)

Long time no see ..

FIRST! Sorry about the quality...

I had an inspiration after watching Texhnolyze... a very dark and very disturbing story... but above all else I was so attracted towards the strange yet indescribable bond between Ichise and Ran...

The series follows Ichise, a prize fighter who lost a leg and an arm to satisfy an enraged promoter. Both his limbs are replaced with cyborg artificial limbs. One of the people he met was Ran, a mysterious girl who had the ability to foretell one's future. Ichise is a lost and confused character, often angered easily and acts violently. After knowing Ran, his demeanor somehow became more temperate and gentle. He usually looks for Ran, and always hoped to bump into her again (Ran travels around hidden) when he needed help and advice.

I wanted to write about that yearning, to be able to know this person more, to see her more, to just be able to look upon her, to be her friend, to not let go, writing in Ichise's place...and I really wished the anime didn't end like that... sorry if I spoiled it here...

I did this for my Uni subject, Song-Writing. This is a very different experience for me, because this time I cannot just write what I please, I have instructions to follow, and there are rules. I have to rhyme more, for one thing, and I need to match the music to the lyrics better, in need of a good structure, all these as part of the Midterm project requirements. But I still chose this theme, to write a tribute to an animation series, while my classmates thrive really well with themes of love, friendship, life, and incredible fantasy-ish visions...

I added in a heartbeat pattern in the piano accompaniment, my attempt to convey how much Ichise anticipates their next reunion, and the pattern is prolonged till the end of the song.
