Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce welcome Singapore Airlines Cargo to the Atlanta market. The weekly all-cargo service operates with a Boeing 747-400 freighter from Singapore to North America and travels to Europe and the Middle East before returning to Singapore.

The inaugural flight into Hartsfield-Jackson arrived September 24, 2009. It is the first around-the-world freighter to fly into Hartsfield-Jackson.

"We are excited to welcome our 12th all-cargo carrier to Hartsfield-Jackson, and we look forward to the growth that Singapore Airlines Cargo will bring to the Atlanta area," said Aviation General Manager Ben DeCosta.

Singapore Airlines Cargo is the latest addition to Hartsfield-Jacksons cargo operation, which creates 255,000 jobs and $44.7 billion in business sales in the six-state Southeastern region (Georgia, Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee).

Singapore Airlines is No. 33 on Fortunes Worlds Most-Admired Companies list and is the only airline in the top 50. Singapore was the United States 12th-largest export market and 27th-largest import market in 2008.

"Singapore Airlines' decision to begin air cargo service to Atlanta furthers our position as one of the world's premier logistics hubs and center for supply chain management," said Bob Pertierra, vice president of supply chain development for the Metro Atlanta Chamber. "This new trade lane will enable companies in Atlanta and the Southeastern U.S. to gain access to even more customers and markets across Asia."

Hartsfield-Jackson is an attractive cargo airport because of its efficiency, low operating costs and lack of curfews. In addition, Hartsfield-Jackson has an innovative, trendsetting design of five parallel runways, six passenger concourses and three cargo complexes to facilitate efficient and expedient connections for air cargo carriers. The Airport serves more than 240 cities in 55 countries worldwide, with more than 2,600 daily landings and takeoffs.

The Airport's convenient location near the three major interstate systems allows cargo delivery trucks to reach more than 80 percent of the U.S. industrial market and 79 percent of the nations largest consumer markets within two delivery days.

Hartsfield-Jackson won Air Cargo Week's prestigious World Air Cargo Award for Airport of the Year in 2009. It was the first U.S. airport to win the award.
