The RAS Challenge is the ultimate personal challenge, incorporating months of fitness training, the thrill of the great outdoors, meeting colleagues from across the country and, most importantly, raising funds to help the indigenous students of Djarragun College.
More than 95 percent of students at the college come from dysfunctional families and live in extreme poverty. Funds raised go towards a learning based program to help students overcome some of these challenges and lead healthy, productive lives.
The first part of the challenge began earlier this year when the challengers started fundraising to raise the target $5,500 each.
The second part of the challenge began on Saturday 26 July at Cairns airport where the challengers met in person for the first time before embarking on the physically intense five-day bike trek through the remote Daintree Rainforest in Far North Queensland.
According to Partner John Somerville, the group had an incredible team spirit. "For a group of people who had only met 8 days before, the camaraderie by the end of the trip was absolutely amazing," he said.
The weeklong adventure gave the team a memorable experience of working together through hardship and trauma, pitching tents and sharing the day's experiences around many campfires.
Each person achieved their target of around $5,500 each, making the final donation to Djarragun more than $100,000.
Congratulations go out to all the RAS Challengers on a great effort. Thanks also to everyone in RAS and KPMG who helped raise funds or made donations so that the challenge could happen.
