  • that is a lovely sounding instrument.. I am a little tired of guitar.. need to branch out and start playing some other stringed wonders methinks!! :)

  • Good idea.. Just what I did.. and my bedroom is now crowded with mandolin, banjo, bouzouki and violin.. Great fun! If you like Irish bouzouki, check out PLANXTY here..

  • Celtic Star?

  • im thinking of getting a bouzouki, i can play the mandolin, is there much difference in technique? are the chords hard to play?

  • well this isnt a lesson!

  • hi!

which tuning of bouzouki to you use?

    thanks.

  • Agreed Thudstaffer...I can't see many chords either

  • viva santos y mayor!!

I've got the new version of your bouzouki

  • Greece is everywhere... even in Ireland.

  • Protip: You can tune any instrument any way you want. Really. Make yourself happy. Tommy Tedesco used to tune his mandolin like a guitar. There's no tuning police or nothin', although if you're playing with others they're likely to get a bit miffed if you aren't in the same PITCH.

If you're going to play Irish music you're best off tuning it in fifths like a fiddle/mandolin, because that's the tuning that music is composed around and, hey! You already know it. That's make it easy, don't it?

  • As far as this video goes, c'mon. I can see the finger positions about 20% of the video, and it looks like it's been shot with a camera phone. I just got a bouzouki, and I'm hungry for info, which this video barely provides. Please try again.

  • So is it true, even for Irish bouzouki, there no "true" tuning? I am getting one and want to tune it like an octave mandolin, 'cause I can play mandolin, but one of the Greek tunings is like the last four strings of a guitar, which I can also play. Is the bouzouki a "blank slate?"
